I still consider myself a new guy here, so, please, help me with a conumdrum. When one of us places a bid on an Ebay item, are we, by virtue of bidding, saying "dibs ! it's mine." If one of us bids on an item, is it understood that other forum members will not bid on the same item ? I've been tempted to bid on several items but did not want to step on any toes...if there is an unspoken portocol, perhaps we could talk about it so we all know what's right.

My concern is not about pricing, it is about not bidding against each other. Perhaps my concern is misplaced....If I knew several of us were interested in the same item, I wouldn't bid against that person...from some of the other postings, it seems that not bidding agaisnt each other may be the accepted pattern....but, I'm just asking...

OK, if we aren't allowed to agree not to bid against each other, even though price rigging isn't the issue or goal, I'll still refrain from attempting to purchase something another Chambers geek has shown an interest in. It's a good thing I'm not in government...with ideas like mine, I'd never make it as Lobbyist !

Ok, I am a lawyer, so I will add that it is not a crime to agree to not bid against each other. The seller has posted a minimum price that he/she will accept and everyone is free to bid any anything they want, above the asking price. Out of courtesy, I try not to bid against others on the board, but that is a personal choice.

Asfan,
I agree with Lori G. too. It's just a courtesy some of us show to the other members. "No price fixing" or "illegal activity" on our part.
If I knew I bid against you for an item you needed to get or keep Francis up and running and I was just looking for a spare I would feel terrible!!

That's my point ! So, I assume it is an unspoken courtesy that we don't bid against one another ? I like that ! Maybe we should have a list going of our Chambers names and our Ebay names so we know who one another is...I'm the same in both places.

I agree, I don't want to compete against anyone on the forum. When I recognize someone's alias, I have refrained from bidding. Right now there are 3 triple pot lids up for auction. I would like to bid on one. My Ebay alias is opalhood. Thanks.
